Derek Drinon

Derek Drinon

These days, you will find Derek by the shoreline of Kennebunkport, always on the lookout for what might hold his interest as a scene worthy to paint. The lines of the coast are full with treasure, especially because the ever-changing landscape never looks the same; that is, until the artistry of drinonlines captures the moment, when Derek brings to life an otherwise brief fragment of time.

Through one scene, you may feel the ocean air on your face and be mesmerized by the fluidity of the waves; on another, you may find yourself reflective and inquisitive; while yet another of his work may bring a sense of nostalgia stirring memories of long ago.

Derek’s love of the Maine coastline began as a child, during the annual summer vacations with his parents and four siblings. There was always an adventure and much to explore. His father’s passion for photography had a profound impact on Derek’s formative years to become the successful artist he is today. He learned the value of recreating a beautiful scene, to be enjoyed over and over again.

Aside from his familial influence and the ever-present wonderment of the natural lines of nature, Derek specialized in photography and studied printmaking and graphic design at the Maine College of Art (formerly known as the Portland School of Art).

Derek has the photographic skill to know what the camera sees in order to create beautiful images as if you are seeing them through your own eyes, although in black and white. You are invited to wade through this site to discover your own interpretation of what you see.
